Cites permit
Have you also heard that a Cites Certificate is needed when buying and selling Jacaranda?
That is true to some extent.
Jacaranda is a tree species that consists of about 50 different jacaranda varieties. And only one of these requires a Cites certificate - it's called Dalbergia Nigra, even called Brazilian Rosewood.
You may wonder why you need a Cites certificate when this furniture was manufactured in the 60s and 70s. The law requires a Cites Certificate for furniture manufactured after 1947.
Since Dalbergia Nigra was very exclusive, it was also a very expensive type of wood at the time. Which meant that most furniture manufacturers made their furniture from cheaper types of jacaranda, which do not require a Cites certificate, they are usually made in Santos Rosewood. Usually more popular and known Danish designers made furniture from Dalbergia Nigra, like Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl etc. which require the permit.
For someone who is not experienced with these wood types, it might be difficult to understand the wood types. We are restoring the pieces which makes us to get a better understanding when it comes to wood types. They have different smell, grains in wood, hardness, the dust after sanding.
If there is the slightest suspicion at the time of purchase that the furniture is from Dalbergia Nigra, we will help the seller to apply for the permit.
